This 7 Day birding safari mainly focuses on Murchison falls conservation Area as well as the albertine Rift sector of North western Uganda.

This national park also protects many African savannah with a checklist of more than 460 bird species. The 9 th ranking of Africa’s birding spots and is 90km from Masindi town in the north western part of the country.

This is also the largest national park in Uganda. You enjoy birding as you look out for all the specials and some of the Guinea Congo biome endemics. You bird through the very stunning lushes of savannah grasslands in Murchison falls national park.

There is also the Royal Mile – Budongo forest Area, which is the Albertine Escarpment. There are over 650 bird species that are recorded to be living in the conservation area classified in boarder categories of savannah forest birds, water birds as well as the albertine endemics.

The most common species include; ground hornbills, marabou stork, black billed bustards and the secretary birds.

Early in the morning after enjoying breakfast, drive to Murchison falls national park and you will enjoy birding for the white crested Turaco. Have lunch in Masindi town and then proceed to the park and drive to the top of the falls for the pel’s fishing owl, variety of Night Jars, Bat Hawk, Rock Pranticoles, qand
many more.

Today, we wake up so early and start our birding session, our main focus for the day will be the Yellow Longbill, Puvell’sIlladopsis, the Fire Crested Alethe, Dusky Longtailed Cuckoo, Xavier’s, Ictrine, NarinaTragon, Yellow Billed, Olive Bellied, Crested Guinea, Fowl, Speckled, Yellow Throated Tinkerbird, Olive Sunbird, Yellow Rumped and Brown Eared, Plain and Little Greenbul, and Yellow Spotted Barbet, Yellow Crested Woodpecker and many more that you will encounter on your safari.

In the morning, we shall start with a drive as we go to cross with a ferry for a morning game drive to the delta area as we search for the shoebill stork and the other water birds.

We expect to find the nocturnal species of birds including the Nightjars and the owls as well as the cats. Immediately after crossing for a game and a birding drive on the northern sector of the park, also expect to view many animals including;
leopards, lions, oribis, giraffes, hartebeests, elephants as well as the cape buffalos.

The main birds usually seen here include; African Quil Finch, Swallow Tailed and Red Throated Bee-Eater, the White Fronted Black Chat, Fawn Bat and Breasted Waxbill, Rufous Crowned and Abyssinian Roller, White Browed Sparrow Weaver, Speckle Fronted Sparrow Weaver, Rufous Sparrow, Vitelline Masked and Little Weaver, Northern Carmine, Silver Bird, and Stanley’s Bustard, Black Billed Barbet,.

Later in the afternoon, we shall have a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the bottom of the falls where we shall view many birds as well animals including; the crocodiles, hippos, and many more.

In the morning, drive to Masindi as you bird the escarpment in search for the black billed as well as the spot flanked barbet, Red-chested Cuckoo, Green-backed Eremomela, Striped Kingfisher, Yellow-bellied Hyliota, Red-winged Pytilia,  FoxyCisticola, Foxy Cistcola, Black-headed Batis, Red-winged Grey Warbler,
Spot Flanked Barbet, Cliff Chat, Chestnut-crowned Sparrow-Weaver, Black Billed and Green-headed Sunbird, and Shining Blue King fisher, Sabine’s and Cassin’s.

You bird the royal Mile for the Chocolate-backed, Nahan’s Francolin, Cassin’s Hawk Eagle, numerous Tinkerbirds and Barbets, Dwarf Kingfishers, White-thighed Hornbill, Narina Trogon, Forest Flycatcher, Fraser’s and Red- tailed Ant Thrush, Western Black-headed Oriole, Purple headed Starling, Blue- breasted Kingfisher, Brown-eared Woodpecker, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, as well as the yellow crested.

After the picnic lunch, we transfer in the afternoon to the Busingiro sector looking out for the IturiBatis, Uganda Woodland Wabler, Lemon Bellied Crombec, Tit Hylia, and the Jameson’s Wattle Eye and later you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

This day we shall transfer to Kampala as we carry out birding en route. We shall see many grassland birds, arrive in Kampala in late evening depending on the time of your flight back home.
