6 Day Nyungwe forest & gorilla trekking safari

This tour also offers you a chance of trekking the mountain gorillas with in the volcanoes National park. The park has got 2 other primate species in Nyungwe Forest National park. You will also get a chance of viewing the last remaining mountain gorillas in the world and this is a beautiful adventure.

Nyungwe is also the largest montane forest in the central Africa and with only 13 species of primates, these include, the chimpanzees and the large groups of Rwenzori Colobus Monkeys.

You will meet and greet with the driver guide who will then transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. Spanning through
many ridges and the valley, Kigali has also got the lush sides, the bustling streets and the winding boulevards and

it’s one of the most attractive capital cities with in Africa and one of the cleanest and safest city in Africa.

Enjoy breakfast and then after drive from Butare which is also the second largest city in Rwanda and is also
regarded as the most intelligent city of Rwanda. It has also got the national museum as well as many academic
universities and the research institutions. Just along the way to Butare, You will also visit Nyanza which is the
former Mwami’s palace and the seat of the fuedal monarchy. This palace has also been reconstructed to its 19
th
century state and this shows the traditional dome that can be compared with the Kabaka’s palace of Buganda.
You will also visit the National museum which is one of the well set up if not the very finest ethnographic museum of
East Africa. It’s also a good source of information on the cultural history of Rwanda and the region.

Start with a breakfast and a briefing at Uwinka tourist information Centre. So depending on your personal interests,
you will also have a choice of the different opportunities of exploring the largest high altitude rain forest of East
Africa! The rest of the interesting large social groups of the Angolan colobu which may be over 300 members. There
are also the largest troops of this species that are known in the world! Nyungwe forest has 25% of the African
primates.
One of these groups is also semi habituated and we also recommend to start your safari with a guided primate walk
in search for the Angolan colobus monkeys, the rangers will also tell where the group is also located and the hiking
times may also vary as the groups keep moving looking for food. More so prepare to have a more active hike.
The other alternative might be a chimp trek in Nyungwe Forest.

Enjoy breakfast and after you will drive to Volcanoes National park having a stopover in Butare fort for some
shopping and then have lunch in Kigali and head to Kinigi were you will arrive in the afternoon.

Have breakfast in the morning at the hotel and after report to the offices for the registration for the gorilla trekking.
After, you will be driven to Volcanoes National park were the trek will start accompanied by the rangers. Gorilla
tracking also takes from 1 to 8 hours and viewing these species is by chance. You are given 1 hour to stay with
them as you are accompanied by the park rangers who have spent all their lives living with these creatures in the
forest. The trek will also be so exciting as you also go through the vines, the giant lobelias and the moss covered
Hagenia trees that grow with in the tropical climate. Gorilla trekking is active but worthwhile on meeting these gentle
giants. The keenness of your coming across with the apes will take away your complexity of the active trek. You
spend time as you are watching the gorillas, you view the adults feeding their young ones, resting and brushing as
the young ones play from vines in the playful display

The guide will also drive you back to Kigali in the afternoon.

Enjoy a half day Kigali city tour and you will also have a chance of viewing the genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi
which also takes a few hours. This is also an emotional visit and the important visit and the importance for one to
realize what hardship Rwanda went through.
